We need a new way to understand current local and global challenges – from protecting the Greenbelt to facing climate change. You'll also learn how we can bring generations together to design a pathway toward a better future, including ways you can make a difference in your community in the Greater Tkaronto Bioregion (GTB). Tkaronto is the Indigenous origin of Toronto.
The GTB is "bounded by the Niagara Escarpment on the west, the Oak Ridges Moraine to the north and east, and Lake Ontario to the south" (Regeneration report, former Toronto Mayor and MP The Honourable David Crombie, 1992).
The 7-Generation GTB initiative brings together all ages for social regeneration (generations in community) and ecological regeneration (community in bioregion). The work interconnects across seven broad themes: environment and climate change, economy, community, health, education and lifelong learning, life course and aging, Indigenous worldviews and knowledge. #ConnectTheDots to #CreateLegacy and #ChangeTheStory.
The 7-Generation GTB initiative is a collaborative effort. The Legacy Project (a research and education group) is bringing together the City of Toronto, City of Markham and other municipalities/regions, York University, OCAD University, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Greenbelt Foundation, Rouge National Urban Park, and other local and international partners.
Joe Brewer is a transdisciplinary scholar with a background in both earth sciences and cognitive sciences. He's an inspiring speaker and leading-edge complexity thinker. He's currently doing on-the-ground regeneration work in a 500,000 ha bioregion around Barichara, Colombia, and helping to create a global bioregional network. He is founder of the Design Institute for Regenerating Earth and author of .
