This year's Refuse To Abuse® 5K will have both virtual & in-person components!
This event will follow the Governor’s Safe Return to Running Guidelines and additional health & safety protocols being used by the Seattle Mariners and Major League Baseball. This allows 600 people to participate in person at T-Mobile Park in waves of 10 people every 3 minutes. The remainder of our 1,500 capacity crowd will participate virtually.
Join us in making the 10th anniversary of this extraordinary event the best one yet!
We will continue to monitor health guidelines. If restrictions are tightened as July approaches, it is possible that we will convert everyone to virtual participation. If restrictions are eased before July, we may move back to our traditional group start for the event at 9:00am. If this happens, all participants will be moved to this single start time regardless of the starting wave you select during registration, and virtual participants will be given the option to switch to in-person in the order their registration was received. Virtual participation will be an option in any scenario. All registrations are final and non-refundable. We will communicate via email with registered participants and keep this site updated if any changes are made.
How do you participate virtually?
Participants will walk, jog, or run a 5K (3.1 miles) on your own, wherever it is safe to do so (e.g., in your neighborhood, on a treadmill) on July 17, 2021. When you’re done, you can get your race swag either by picking it up at the ballpark on July 17 (we’ll have a safe, socially distant method for handing it out on the plaza next to the Mariners Parking Garage) or we will mail it to you the week of July 19th. We’ll be interacting across social media channels throughout race day to make the experience fun and interactive!
Will there be any changes to the in-person race from years past?
We have added some additional safety and security protocols for the in-person event. Masks will be required. The course has been changed slightly to avoid the lap around the outside of the ballpark (for security reasons) and the suite level of the ballpark (because this level is indoors without enough airflow for COVID requirements). We love the revised course and think you will too. Check it out here!
This event has always been a time to celebrate the resilience of survivors and the power of community. At a time when so many survivors (and our communities as a whole) are experiencing isolation, we hope connecting through this event will provide some much needed connection, communicate to everyone experiencing abuse that you are not alone, and we will back fully in-person again next year.

The Refuse To Abuse® 5K at T-Mobile Park is a unique 5K fun run/walk that takes you around every level of T-Mobile Park, from the top of the players' tunnel to the final lap around the field. Stepping out on the field level of a major league ball park is an awe-inspiring moment that few have experienced! Fund raised benefit the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and their statewide violence prevention and education work.
Refuse To Abuse® is a 25-year partnership between the Seattle Mariners and the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCADV). With spokespeople that included Kyle Seager, Justus Sheffield, and Scott Servais, Refuse To Abuse® has reached millions of Mariners fans over the past 25 years with messages that promote healthy, respectful relationships.
