Join us for a special Women's Day lecture with Prof. Valerie Visanich.This lecture explores the intricate relationship between women and popular culture from a sociological lens in relation to gender roles, representations and identities. Key themes discussed include how media representations and cultural narratives shape and are shaped by societal perceptions of gender. It investigates how these representations influence women's identities, social roles, and societal expectations, as well as how women actively engage with and contest cultural norms. The aim of this discussion is to contribute to ongoing discussions about gender in/equality, media literacy, and the transformative potential of inclusive and empowering cultural production.
Prof. Valerie Visanich is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Malta.
