Reflective Conversations at Eckhart Public Library is a program designed to engage our community with meaningful questions about topics that affect us all. The program will be offered three times to make it easier for interested patrons to find a session that works with their schedule:
-Saturday, September 6: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
-Thursday, September 11: 12:00 - 1:15 pm
-Thursday, September 11: 6:00 - 7:00 pm
All three sessions will meet in the Close Community Room.
WHO SHOULD COME? Anyone interested in open and reflective conversations about who we are, what we value, and how we come together as Americans.
WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT? You will be part of a small group of people who choose to come to the Library to talk with others from the area who are willing to engage in big ideas such as liberty, freedom, and equality. There will be a trained facilitator who guides the group first in engaging with a piece of writing or an illustration, and then in reflecting on how that object makes them think about the topic. Conversations are designed to be reflective and civil. You may encounter ideas that you find challenging, or you may not. There is no predetermined outcome.
HOW LONG WILL THIS PROGRAM LAST? Each conversation will last about an hour.
WILL THERE BE FOOD? There will be light refreshments available.
WHY IS THIS AT THE LIBRARY? Eckhart Public Library strives to be a place that fosters lifelong learning for all members of our community. With this event, we hope to continue encouraging learning and understanding.
WILL I BE EXPECTED TO DO SOMETHING AFTERWARD? There are no commitments! But if your experience is positive and you would like to see more Reflective Conversations offered in the community, we would welcome your help in creating those. If you feel inspired to invest yourself in a cause that strengthens the community, then we will all be better for it!
WHERE DID THIS IDEA COME FROM? Indiana Humanities is encouraging libraries and other civic organizations around the state to have these types of conversations as the United States approaches its 250th birthday in 2026.
So, join us on a day and time that's convenient for you. We're looking forward to some great conversations!
