About this Event

Substance use stigma is a critical public health concern, as it is one of the primary barriers that often prevents people who use substances from seeking help.

As part of ongoing efforts to reduce substance use stigma, the Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy (WECOSS) has released a policy template with standardized procedures and practices that community organizations can use to foster stigma-free service environments for people who use substances. The Reducing Substance Use Stigma Policy Template is universal in that it can be applied and adapted to a wide range of community service settings, including treatment centres, healthcare facilities, emergency response services, justice-oriented organizations, and others. The template is also accompanied by two e-learning modules for community organizations and their staff to support implementation of the policy into practice.

Join us for the in-person launch of the Reducing Substance Use Stigma Policy Template!
A workshop is being offered on Wednesday, November 26th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Caboto Club (Marconi Hall) to launch the policy template to community organizations. This workshop is for organizational leaders, managers, human resource representatives, and other staff responsible for policy development at organizations that work with or support people who use substances. The session is being co-facilitated by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families and will include anti-stigma education, an overview of the policy template, and guidance for organizations on policy implementation. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

We look forward to your participation in this important session as we work collectively to promote stigma-free service delivery in our community.
