Please join us at the Historic Easton Cemetery to Honor George Taylor. Meet at the Taylor Monument, inside the N. 7th St gate (about 0.25 mile), across from the chapel. This fall, thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor, George Taylor's monument received much needed conservation care from Preservation Works. On this Veterans Day, we will take a moment to rededicate Taylor's monument, 170 years after the people of Easton erected the monument, in 1855.
Taylor's monument is reputed to be the first public monument erected to the memory of any of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Taylor was originally buried in the Old Lutheran Cemetery in Easton at 4th and Ferry Streets, but the body was moved to its present site at the Easton Cemetery in front of his monument in 1870.
