Old Nectar Concerts welcomes the violinist Miclen LaiPang and pianist François du Toit for a programme entitled ‘Red, White, and Blues’ at Old Nectar gardens historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek.
This concert program captures the dynamic interplay between American and French musical traditions, blending the lyricism of romantic and impressionistic French compositions with the rhythmic spirit and blues of American jazz. The pieces selected highlight the vibrant exchanges between these cultures, celebrating the beauty of shared musical influence. Works by Beach, Franck, Ravel and Frolov.
Violinist Miclen LaiPang has swiftly emerged as one of the most compelling and versatile artists of his generation, earning global acclaim as a soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster, and educator. Praised by The New York Times as “a force to be reckoned with” and hailed by Germany’s Die Welt as “a musician of daring virtuosity with gripping access and noble elegance,” Miclen has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras and graced the world’s premier venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Musikverein, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, and St. Martin in the Fields.
Pianist François du Toit is rightly regarded as one of South Africa’s most eminent pianists and musicians. He is frequently heard in solo recital, as concerto soloist and with chamber music ensembles. François du Toit is an Associate Professor of Piano, Deputy Director of the South African College of Music and Head of Practical Studies at the University of Cape Town. He received tuition in South Africa with Merryl Preston and Laura Searle and with Arie Vardi and Bernd Goetzke in Germany. During his period of study, he distinguished himself in several international competitions, taking top prizes in Hannover, Rotterdam and Athens.
