About this Event
This informative workshop will discuss GLP-1 receptor agonists, a class of medications originally designed for type 2 diabetes that have shown significant promise in aiding weight loss.
The workshop will emphasize the importance of this topic for African American women as we face disproportionately high rates of obesity, diabetes, and related cardiovascular risks. The session also will address social determinants of health, cultural stigmas around weight, and the accessibility of advanced therapies like GLP-1s.
By empowering participants with knowledge, the workshop will aim to encourage informed decision-making and is critical in shedding light on how increased awareness can contribute to better health outcomes for African American women, aligning with broader goals of reducing health disparities.
Panelists will include subject matter experts Olivia Nathan, PharmD, MPH, with
AndHealth; Dr. Joshua Joseph - Associate Professor, Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at The Ohio State University; and Antwoney Terrell, MBA, BASc, Community Health, Build a Better You.
