From the sport’s European home in Italy, the World Series takes a huge leap to new territories for the season’s grand finale in New Zealand. Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, set right at the heart of the City of Sails, will not only serve as a brand-new location for the cliff diving elite but will also witness the crowning of this year’s two champions.The 36 hectare area connects the country’s biggest city to the harbour and is packed with trendy restaurants and bars, buzzing with activity, and this season’s final freefalls will be set against the iconic city scape backdrop.
While New Zealand is known for its stunning landscapes and scenery, the 2022 World Series showdown in the centre of the city brings this global sporting spectacle to the people, showcasing the event to a large number of spectators.
Since 2011, Wynyard Quarter has played host to many a major sporting event, such as the Rugby World Cup, the Volvo Ocean Race, the 36th America’s Cup – and more recently, Red Bull Flugtag which attracted over 20,000 specators last December. The location continues to evolve as an entertainment hub for all ages and interests.
In an area that has won a number of national and international design and architecture awards, including the top honour at The Waterfront Centre (USA) for excellence on the Waterfront, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will award the King Kahekili Trophy to the best female and male high divers of the year.
