Stipends for Graduate Assistants are available to qualifying Fine Arts Doctoral Program (Ph.D.) and Master of Music (MM) students, to be paid as a salary in monthly installments from October through June. Master’s stipend: $10,500.00; Ph.D. stipend $12,500.00. Additional fellowships and scholarships may be available for select students.
Teaching Assistant positions provide significant reductions in all but a portion of tuition and fees, as well as Texas Resident status. Fees vary depending on enrollment.
In-state tuition and eligibility for medical insurance at a reduced rate.
TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY is a leading public university with an enrollment of over 40,000 students. The School of Music, part of the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts, has a full-time faculty of 70, enrolling approximately 500 students. Graduate degrees offered include the Master of Music (Performance, Conducting, Composition, String Pedagogy, Piano Pedagogy, Collaborative Piano, Music Theory, Musicology), Master of Music Education, Doctor of Musical Arts, PhD in Music Education, and PhD in Fine Arts with tracks in Music Theory, Musicology, Inter-Arts, and Administration.

Members of the Musicology student body regularly present at regional, national, and international conferences, and are likewise encouraged to participate in music-making and collaborative artistic endeavors.
Lubbock is a major cultural center of West Texas with a population of nearly 300,000 that supports the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Lubbock Youth Orchestras, Ballet Lubbock, the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, the state-of-the-art Buddy Holly Hall for the Performing Arts and Sciences, numerous galleries, and a variety of other music, dance, and theatre performance organizations and venues.
