About this Event

What happens when the act of curating becomes an act of cultural and social activism? Recoverist Curators: Reimagining the World We Live In has spent the last year informing that question. With, the exhibition now entering its final weeks - you are invited to a last public tour on Thursday 25 June, from 6-7pm.

This tour is an opportunity to directly experience the Whitworth’s collection through a Recoverist lens: activist, inclusive, and framed by collective lived experience.

Each artwork was selected and reinterpreted for speaking about recovery - not as a finite end point, but as a social and cultural living process.

This event is for all art lovers seeking depth and enlightenment, including those in recovery looking for solidarity. If you're culturally curious and believe in art as a force for positive social change this is for you.

Driven by the lived experience of substance use and recovery, the Recoverist Curators project is an activist-based process, developing inclusive ways for working with people and communities in recovery. The exhibition has led to the development of new knowledge and increased cultural confidence for successful creative Recoverist engagement.

Portraits of Recovery is a Manchester-based visual arts charity supporting people who identify as being in recovery from substance use.
