Forensic science is a crucial part of the justice system, helping law enforcement determine how and when a crime has occurred and identify the key suspects. It is also an aspect of crime solving that is largely misunderstood. So what exactly is forensic science, and how is it used by police? How much of what we see on TV and in the movies is an accurate portrayal of these investigations? Join Cindy Homer of the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory for a program that will explore the history of Maine's crime lab and the role of forensic science in solving crimes, highlighting the differences between real-life forensic science and its portrayal in the media.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

About the presenter: Cindy Homer is a forensic scientist with 23 years of experience at the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory, specializing in crime scenes and impression evidence. She serves as the supervisor and technical manager of the Latent Print Section. In addition to her lab work, she is an adjunct lecturer in forensic science at the University of Maine at Augusta. She has taught nationally and internationally in her areas of expertise.
