About the walk
The brief period between the First and Second World Wars was a boom time for Art Deco and ‘Moderne’ architectural styles. Glamorous and luxurious Art Deco facades and interiors were perfect for the growing leisure market of cinemas. ‘Moderne’ styles were plainer and more appropriate for public buildings. We have very good examples of architecture from this period in the town centre and this walk will introduce you to some of them. We will seek out the details and features that make them special and decide if we really like it or not.
