BOLD is thrilled to host a reading with Gail Pasternack, Cassandra Sagan, and Rivkah Coburn, contributors of The Rooster Princess and Other Tales: Jewish Stories Repopulated with Spunky Heroines, Wise Women, Brave Crones and Powerful Prophetesses. Please join us for a storytelling event with three members of the Jewish Women’s Storytelling Collective—Gail Pasternack, Cassandra Sagan, and Rivkah Coburn — to celebrate the publication of The Rooster Princess and Other Tales: Jewish Stories Repopulated with Spunky Heroines, Wise Women, Brave Crones and Powerful Prophetesses. This anthology by the Jewish Women’s Storytelling Collective puts a modern spin on folklore by substituting leading male characters with female ones in re-imagined traditional tales, original stories, folktales, and personal stories. Gail, Cassandra, and Rivkah are all ordained Maggidah (Jewish storytellers) who will perform stories from this innovative collection
Gail Pasternack is a writer and storyteller who was ordained as a maggidah by Debra Gordon Zaslow and Rabbi David Zaslow. Her writing has appeared in magazines and anthologies, and Publishers Weekly has praised her clever story adaptations. Gail is a board member and the President Emeritus of Willamette Writers.
Cassandra Sagan is a twice-ordained maggid and a cultural creative: educator, poet, singer/songwriter, visual artist, InterPlay leader, creator of Moving Midrash (an embodied Torah study practice), and a regular “Joy Gevalt.” Cassandra weaves her tales with humor and magical realism, while making ancestral tikkunim (repairs) through her characters.
Rivkah Coburn is a rabbi, storyteller, dancer, spiritual director, and Jewish embodiment facilitator. She was ordained as a maggidah from Rabbi David Zaslow and Debra Gordon Zaslow and received her rabbinic and spiritual director smicha from the ALEPH Alliance for Jewish Renewal. Rivkah infuses sacred stories with magical physicality.
Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to grab a snack or drink. The event will start at 7:00 p.m.
