About this Event
Sophie Lewis’s radical cry for gestational justice tears down decades of essentialist and contradictory presumptions of labour, motherhood and ownership. The book highlights the systematic inconsistences in prevailing understandings of the family and birthing, advocating for a communal approach to reproductive labour that enables the proliferation of relationships of care.
In this session, led by Eleni Zachariou, we will look at a few passages from Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family that relate to some of the themes in Anna Perach’s exhibition Holes.
All participants will be sent the passages to read as a PDF in advance of the event. There is no expectation to read all of them. We encourage you to support your local booksellers by buying a copy of the book online via Bookshop.org.
The reading group will begin with an introduction to some of the key themes in the assigned readings before participants split off into smaller groups for discussion. Everyone will then come back together and each group will feedback ideas for us to discuss as a group.
This event is free to attend and will take place in Gasworks’ participation space. Booking is required.
