Reading Den is a bimonthly curated reading series that features notable published authors as well as emerging writers bursting onto Colorado’s literary scene.
Join us on April 24th, 2024 at Fort Greene for the inaugural reading of the Reading Den series.
The event is free to the public and begins at 7pm. Registration is encouraged.
ABOUT THE READERS
Joe Fassler is author of The Sky Was Ours, a novel published in April 2024 by Penguin Books. His nonfiction and reporting appear in venues like The New York Times, The Guardian, Wired, and The Best American Food Writing. In 2017, edited Light the Dark: Writers on Creativity, Inspiration, and the Artistic Process, a collection of as-told-to essays from leading authors, adapted from his “By Heart,” column for The Atlantic. He currently lives in Denver.
Caitlin Barasch is the author of A Novel Obsession, which was named a Good Morning America “Buzz Pick,” a “Best Summer Read” byVogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and one of Buzzfeed’s “Best Books of 2022.” Born and raised in New York, Caitlin earned her BA from Colorado College and her MFA from New York University. A former bookseller, Caitlin is currently a creative writing instructor at The Writers Circle and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colorado College.
Patricia McCrystal is a writer from Arvada, Colorado. She received her MFA at Regis University. Her work can be found in Joyland Magazine, Epiphany Magazine, Oyster River Pages, JMWW Journal, Atticus Review and more, and on PBS. Her stories have made the fiction shortlist for the Disquiet International Literary Award, and have won the Slippery Elm Prose Prize. Her work has received a Pushcart Prize nomination, a Best of Net nomination, and a Best American Short Stories nomination. Patty is a Creative Writing Instructor for the Frames Prison Program through the Brink Literacy Project. She is also a Volunteer Editor for the Hard Times workshop, a community writing program for those experiencing homelessness and economic hardship, hosted through Lighthouse Writers Workshop and Write Denver.
Ahja Fox is a mother, educator, and the Poet Laureate of Aurora, Colorado for a four-year term. She has editorial, hosting, and teaching experience and has published in various online and print journals, including some anthologies. Her current work involves running the Muse Mentorship, putting together a community-made poetry exhibit, doing lectures and workshops at various grade schools and Aurora Public Libraries, all while also working on her debut poetry book, dis/articulate. Ahja was a CAAPP Book Prize Finalist in 2021 and a GASHER Press First Book Scholarship Finalist in 2022.
