Mita Mahato is a Seattle-based cut paper, collage, and comix artist, poet, and educator. Her work assembles fragments of used and discarded materials that dramatize entangled processes of death and renewal, specifically within the context of ecosystemic loss. Her poetry comix have appeared in Ecotone, Iterant, Shenandoah, Coast/NoCoast, ANMLY, Drunken Boat, and elsewhere, and been supported by Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK), Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB), Loghaven, Storyknife, the Black Earth Institute, the Mineral School, the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, and the Arctic Circle. She is the author of two collections: "Arctic Play" (The 3rd Thing, 2024) and "In Between" (Pleiades, 2017), which was listed in The Best American Comics 2019. Reception.
