About this Event
NC State alumnus Dr. David Washington will lead a discussion about his graphic novel Black Defender, which tells the story of Dr. Chris Withers, a successful entrepreneur and special forces veteran who learns that he needs to become a hero to save his city, and that heroes seek justice not vengeance. Kirkus Reviews says, “Washington succeeds in revising the classic superhero formula to highlight inequities in the justice system... Paired with excellent illustrations by Tasbolatov, this graphic novel more than delivers on the promise of its premise." Read Smart is a collaboration between NC State University Libraries and Wake County Public Libraries.
