Reach For It celebrate the jazz funk groove of the master musician George Duke, an American musician, known as a keyboard pioneer, composer, singer and producer in both jazz and popular mainstream musical genres. His legacy as a recording artist is vast, from Cannonball Adderley to Jean-Luc Ponty, Frank Zappa to Michael Jackson, to over 40 recordings as a solo artist. Simply put, George forever changed the landscape of jazz, r&b, funk, pop and classical music. Tracing his work from the Zappa years through a glittering, multi-album solo career, the heavyweight collaborations (Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke) and Montreux triumphs, Dukey’s music provides the melodic soul enriched canvas for these outstanding players to express themselves.
Duke worked with his childhood hero Miles Davis, producing a track on each of Davis's 1980s electro albums, Tutu (1986) and Amandla (1989). He forged successful working partnerships with the singers Rachelle Ferrell and Anita Baker and took part in fundraising ventures (such as Wave For Peace) and TV specials (such as the Soul Train Music Awards). Duke made nearly 40 albums under his own name, breaking new ground in world jazz by recording Brazilian Love Affair (1979), one of his best-loved albums, in Rio with local musicians. From time to time, he enjoyed freak hits – in Japan with Shine On and in France with Reach Out.
On the night expect impeccable ensemble musicianship combined with friendly funk and some very groovy jazz – plus solos to take the breath away!
