About this Event
Is your child nonspeaking? Do they have minimal spoken language or use speech in ways that doesn't seem to get their true intentions across? Maybe you've heard your child labeled as intellectually disabled / low functioning / aggressive - You know it's not right but what you see is so convincing. And yet, it still doesn't sit right. An estimated 40 percent of autistic individuals do not use spoken language reliably. And if you don't have a reliable way to communicate, you don't have a reliable way to show what you really know. Reach Every Voice can help. REV is a practice of educators with decades of experience working with nonspeaking and minimally speaking autistic learners. Many of our staff are state-certified teachers. We believe there is no single methodology that works for all learners. Some communication methodologies prescribe a rigid step-by-step recipe to using their specific communication tools and their specific instructional methods. Multiple methods inform our practices, which draw on communication strategies from a variety of different sources.
At Reach Every Voice, we recognize that each student is unique and likely communicates in multiple and varied forms. That's why we focus on connecting with our students and families as individuals and center our work on communication instruction from a lens of a text-based, multimodal AAC approach that respects our students' intelligence while giving them the coaching and strategies to build purposeful movement and the literacy skills to communicate. Want to learn more? Join our Founder and Executive Director Lisa Mihalich Quinn as well as other members of our educational team on Thursday, January 23 at 6:00 pm at the Parent Resource Center!
