Re:Sound is CUSP's annual “new” and experimental music festival that brings together and showcases pioneers in the arts with diverse programming at venues throughout Cleveland. By connecting local and visiting performers, Re:Sound propels innovation and elevates contemporary artistry in Northeast Ohio.

Concert III features:
Charlotte Munn-Wood
Otal
Charles Peoples III

Charlotte Munn-Wood
An outspoken proponent of experimental sounds and expression, violinist Charlotte Munn-Wood is an improviser, chamber musician, and sought-after educator in New York City and beyond. Her music and visual art explore the textures and timbres of the natural world and of inner psychological environments.

Munn-Wood is a founding member of Du.0 (du-point-oh), a two-violin ensemble specializing in experimental contemporary and noise-based improvised music. Formed with Aimée Niemann in 2015, the duo has forged a path of innovative, inclusive programming in non-traditional venues.
Part performance art, part sculpture, and part ecological statement, the SOUNDNEST invites performers and audience to gather sounds from their environment and build them into music. Violinist Charlotte Munn-Wood will "play" the SOUNDNEST, guided by graphic scores created by co-composer Aimée Niemann. Like a bird's nest rebuilt again and again, each incarnation of the SOUNDNEST creates an integrated space for listening and reflecting on the sounds of nature.

Otal
Óskar Þór Arngrímsson is an Icelandic born musician, sound artist, and music producer, currently living and working in the US. Growing up in Iceland, he was influenced by the culture of magic and belief in a hidden world. His artistic name, Ōtal, means a large unknown number, an innumerable amount, a myriad. It also means something that is unspoken, referencing both the nature of Óskar's music and his upbringing. In his work Óskar is searching for the 'other;' the hidden less visible layer of reality, finding importance in what has been cast aside in the process of globalization by mainstream society.
Óskar Þór Arngrímsson will be joined by Scott Olson on percussion. Arngrímsson and Olson met in the summer of 2023. Instantly recognizing a shared interest in aleatory electro-acoustic music, a collaboration was born utilizing Olson’s live percussion and sound making fed through Arngrimsson’s array of electronics. The results were a pulsating morphogenesis formed of wood and metal across granular clouds. Bells and oscillators rang. Abstract rhythms crashed into asymmetric modulation. Olson and Arngrimsson have adopted the Icelandic concept of Þetta Reddast as a foundational guidepost for this piece.

Charles Peoples III
Charles Peoples III is a sonic changemaker. Their work encompasses performance art, composition, poetry, and choreography. With a focus on the convergence of sound, technology, and spirituality, they create experiences that traverse realms of mysticism, queerness, and transformation. Charles has performed his music at multiple conferences, workshops, and theaters; significant mentions include the 9th International Sound Healing Conference, the New Living Expo, Oakland Pride Festival, San Jose Pride Festival, and the Lesher Center for the Arts. Currently a grad student at Dartmouth College, Charles is researching societal/individual misremembering and the therapeutic value of performance. He is now merging his interests in ancient ritual, storytelling, and shamanism with technology to create transformative, mystical, and immersive performances.
Through extended vocal techniques and with the aid of gesture-controlled technology, Charles engages in real-time looping and sonic manipulation. Improvisations of atemporal dimensions are the focal point of the work, tapping into the mystical and formless.
