RE SOLUTION_ a Conversation With City Leaders Who Made a ChangeAbout this Event

Georgios Kaminis was awarded the 2016 World Mayor Prize for his achievements in welcoming, helping and protecting refugees and their rights during the severe economic crisis and under difficult political circumstances.
Under his leadership, the city of Athens won several international awards, such as the Mayor’s Challenge award for its citizen engagement platform known as “synAthina” by Bloomberg Philanthropies. In addition, Athens has been awarded “Europe’s Leading City Tourist Board 2018” and “Europe’s Leading City Break Destination 2018” in the World Travel Awards, as well as the “Emerging Cultural City of the Year Award” in September 2017 in the Leading Culture Destinations Awards. Furthermore, Athens was nominated and selected as the “World Book Capital” for 2018 by UNESCO.
In 2018, the European Commission awarded Athens the “European Capital of Innovation” prize.

Re_Solution is a series organized by IE School of Architecture and Design with the objective of leading a conversation about the complex field of city-making. The series will include recent mayors of cities that have ensured particular c, such as Athens, which faced a major migratory crisis, and other cities such as Stockholm, Helsinki and Toronto.
Each of these cities has faced challenges and mobilized all available resources to keep their cities afloat, drawing from the power of public infrastructure and transformative urban projects including museums, festivals, markets and more. Re_Solution seeks to demonstrate how city challenges have been addressed in collaboration with different sectors involved in city-making: the academic world and members of the public and private institutions.
The school understand cities holistically, as sites of transformation in the built, natural and digital world. As an educational institution, we want to generate knowledge and research, and welcome discussions that lead to transformation towards building sustainable cities for the future.
