Get out of the cold and warm up your creative muscles with the new exhibition Re/Presenting: Art Beyond the Color Line at the Mead Art Museum (Amherst College)! Initiated in collaboration with locally-based organization EmbraceRace, Re/Presenting explores portraying others with love and care in an interactive, all-ages exhibition showcasing dozens of artworks–spanning many times, places, subjects, and mediums. Visitors are invited to contribute their own self-portrait to the exhibition, weave on a community loom, get cozy in a reading nook, or complete activity booklets. Bingo cards by EmbraceRace will be available, highlighting opportunities to engage with self-love and education at the Mead, Jones Library, Eric Carle Museum, and home. Kids who complete a bingo before February 23rd can turn them in at the Mead desk for a voucher to Flayvors in Hadley (good for a small ice cream or hot chocolate). Also on view will be Open Admissions: Michael Rakowitz and Early Amherst Collections, which is designed for more mature audiences but also has some interactive opportunities.
*Notes:
Hours: While there will be a special celebration during the Winterfest event, the Mead is open to the public and totally free during all regular hours, Tuesdays through Sundays 9am to 5pm (and until 10pm on Thursdays). We hope you'll visit!
Getting here: If you're unfamiliar with the Mead, consult our parking and transportation map. If you require closer parking during College business hours, please reach out to [email protected] about a parking pass; we're happy to help.
Accessibility: The Mead strives to be an accessible and comfortable environment for all. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible, and there are two handicap parking spots on the plaza out front (next to a small ramp up from street level, which can get slippery in inclimate weather). Full details are available on our accessibility webpage.
Additionally, the Mead is KultureCity-certified as a Sensory Inclusive museum. Inquire at the front desk to borrow a KultureCity kit, or about enChroma color-corrective glasses for patrons who experience red-green colorblindness.
