I’m often asked “What does it mean to express your authentic self? How do I know when I’m being authentic?” The easiest way that I know to get at this question is to encourage people to engage in something creative and to become aware of the feelings that come up during the process. What I mean by “creativity” is not the same as the creative process that artists engage in. Creativity is not the exclusive domain of artists. Rather, creativity is universal. It’s a life force that is present the day each of us is born. This life force can be awakened and put to sleep, but it can never be extinguished. This is why when we awaken our creativity, we experience elation. We tap into something authentic. We recognize ourselves.
