About this Event
This program is designed to connects people to nature and encourages the benefits of being outdoors. Bridging Generations aims to promote physical activity, combat social isolation, and foster meaningful connections between generations. Residents and students will be partnered together for the 30-minute bridge to bridge walk along the Mission Creek greenway.
Overview:
- Residents will walk along Mission Creek greenway starting at the meeting kiosk close to the Robert Hobson Environmental Education Centre (EECO)
- A group of students will meet the residents at the kiosk along with their group lead teacher and the Volunteer Coordinator
- The aimed walk is called the bridge-to-bridge walk. This is a flat gravel and dirt walkway that can take 20-30 mins to complete. At times longer if it’s a slow stroll.
- CRIS Adaptive Adventure is also volunteering two staff and a trail rider to help move those with mobility issues through the trail.
Students can participate in clean up or park themed activities (ex. Bird watching, nature bingo) during the walk if they choose with there senior companion. Other fun games and conversation starters will be provided to help form a meaningful connection among group members.
