About this Event
The Roanoke Diversity Center (RDC) celebrates 10 years since its doors were first opened. In 2011, the need for an LGBTQ+ center and safe space was conceived by Frank House. By 2012, the organization was officially registered as a 501C and the first board of directors was established to find a space to serve the community. With that the RDC opened its doors in 2013 in the basement of the MCC church. In 2020, the RDC was able to move to our current location in the heart of the city for more visibility and ease of access to the community.
Since 2013, the RDC has provided a safe space, support groups, programs and events that serve the area's LGBTQ+ community. It has also housed and nurtured programs that have become so big that they've gone on to be their own organizations like Diversity Camp. On top of that, the RDC houses the Roanoke LGBTQ Memorial Library, Blue Ridge Pride Sports, The Southwest Virginia Community Guide, and sponsors the House Of Expression.
