A native of Murfreesboro, Mark Williamson is the co-owner ofthe Williamson Family Farm located at the corner of Medical
Center Parkway and I-24. The farm has been under continuous
ownership by the Williamson family since it was purchased by
his parents, Bascom and Mitsue Williamson, in 1953.
Mark and his sister, Toni, were raised on the farm, which was a
very successful single-family dairy practice for more than 50
years.
Graduating from Riverdale High School, Mark earned his
bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College in Kentucky
before attending the University of Tennessee School of
Medicine in Memphis and completing an orthopedic surgery residency in Chattanooga.
He relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where he received fellowship training in spinal surgery as well as in pediatric orthopedic surgery. He then moved to Kansas City where he served as the Director of the Scoliosis and Spinal Reconstructive Surgery division at Children’s
Mercy Hospital. He found his way back to the southeast, serving the Statesville, North Carolina community for 25 years as a spinal and adult reconstructive orthopedic surgeon.
After retiring, Mark and his wife, Alice Kirk Williamson, created a new vision for the property and turned the family farm into an agritourism business focusing on organic farming, festivals, and private events. Education and research play a prominent role, carrying on the legacy of his father.
Mark Williamson will discuss the history of the farm and how he has been able to hold on to it among the growth around him.
The Williamson Family Farm now includes a 5-acre private events campus with two indoor barn spaces, a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, and four luxurious private suites. The farm has acres of space for outdoor and tented activities for weddings, social gatherings, or corporate events for up to 2,500 guests.
Mark and Alice have three adult sons who pursue different careers yet share common themes in “service to others.” In his spare time, he volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America, Young Life, and enjoys all things outdoors.
