Webinar Outline:
This in-person workshop has been designed to help you gain a greater understanding of the complexities of the biomechanics of running-related injuries (RRI) across all sports. Awareness of the mechanisms of RRI and the recent research will help you to identify the causation of many running injuries commonly seen in clinic. This workshop will have a strong, practical focus with an evidence-based approach, allowing chiropractors to develop a systematic approach to patient assessment and management which can be integrated into practice immediately. Whether your patient participates in a sport for fun or is a highly competitive athlete, this workshop will equip you with the necessary skills to rehabilitate successfully.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding of running-related injury biomechanics.
- Awareness of predisposing factors of sports injuries.
- Understand how to modify training to reduce risk.
- Conduct objective screening tests to use on your patients.
- Know how to undertake a video running gait assessment, and what to look for.
- Awareness of the latest literature on planter fascia, Achille tendinopathy, calf, hip, and hamstring injuries.
- Awareness of current industry wearable technology for motion capture in sport.
Speakers:
Gary Hall – BSc, MSc (Sports Med), PhD candidate
Gary qualified as a chiropractor in 2008 following a 16-year career in remote medicine. He has a strong passion for evidence-based practice, publishing his first paper in 2011 and gaining College of Chiropractors Research Clinic status in 2012. In 2013, he established a sports injury clinic, working with many elite athletes and specialising in triathlon and running. Gary works with Great British Triathlon Team members and many running clubs. He holds an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine and is studying for a PhD in running injuries at Northumbria University. He has been a technical official for the British Triathlon since 2017 and has competed in several Ironman races and many triathlons, as well as the Marathon Des Sables Sahara Desert race. Gary no longer practices as a chiropractor, dividing his time as a full-time Sports Rehabilitation and Performance lecturer at Newcastle College University and PhD researcher. He is also a GCC Test of Competency panel member.
