Have you ever considered arranging objects together, even if they might not make sense? Do you wonder how things out in the world find themselves together? Or rather, do you see things that should go together but don’t?
This course introduces alternative ways of thinking about collage. Students will begin with traditional ideas of collage-making through two-dimensional methods and work up to three-dimensional forms. Students will also learn about conceptual art terms such as bricolage and assemblage and embark on projects based on those concepts. Merging found materials and non-conventional approaches will be the foundation of the course, helping to expand our definitions of sculpture and art.
The course has no prerequisites. Students from all backgrounds are welcome to participate, and creativity and flexibility are highly encouraged.
