1:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Show and Shine + group ride with residents/guests
The Orchard Walk Retirement Community has been in Manotick for almost 20 years. It offers a full range of options to seniors from independent and/or assisted living to respite care and vacation stays. There is a duck pond, walking paths, a petting farm and an outdoor swimming pool. And the EOOC.
Since 2017, our Chapter has visited the Retirement community more or less annually. At that first visit, EOOC granted one of the residents a Living Wish, and close to 40 members (30 motorcycles) arrived to escort this resident through a countryside ride - an activity the resident had enjoyed for many years previously. In both 2018 and 2019, our Chapter rode out to the retirement community to show off our bikes, brag a bit and swap stories with the residents (they have a surprising number of motorcycle stories of their own!), do a full-blown Show and Shine – and take willing residents on a short group ride. They loved it. We loved it. COVID was a lot of a bummer for 2020 and 2021. We returned in 2022. In 2024, we asked if they wanted us to come back. They said yes!
In stark contrast to other places we go … here, the more bikes and the louder the rumble, the better.
Please join us to make this a special day for the residents of the community, many of whom are reliving memories or crossing off items on their “really fun stupid stuff I wish I did as a kid” list. Or are just attracted to the cool factor of hanging with a bunch of bikers. This is a treat for many of them. It is about us giving to others, if only because we can, and it matters to them. But be aware that you will get just as much out of it as they will!
This will be one of the most emotionally fulfilling rides this year.
