With Wildfoot Travel & Albatross ExpeditionsFor our second event we will welcome back James from Wildfoot Travel who was also at our cruise evening back in March. We only heard from James for 5 minutes and we were immediately captivated. We simply had to book him in for a more in-depth talk and we have finally managed to pin him down to join us.
We will also be joined by Expedition Guide Steffan Danino from Albatross Expeditions to hear about their exciting adventures guiding small groups to the North & South Pole and beyond. This will no doubt be a fascinating talk and one we are really excited about. This event will be suitable to anyone with an interest in expedition travel and cruises, wildlife, the polar regions and adventure travel.
James has over 15 years of experience and has explored the world's most awe-inspiring destinations, from standing amidst 400,000 king penguins in South Georgia to summiting 4000m peaks in Switzerland and diving in the Maldives.
One of James' fondest memories is from the remote village of Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland, where a young Inuit child spontaneously jumped on his back for a piggyback ride. This heartwarming moment captured the resilience and spirit of the locals who find joy despite living in a harsh environment, isolated by sea ice for most of the year. For James, experiences like these embody what travel is all about - connecting with nature and people, opening our eyes to different ways of life, and using travel as a force for good.
Steffan is originally from South Wales in the UK. He first went to the Arctic at the age of 17 and has been captivated ever since. Steffan organised his first expedition to East Greenland during his Geology degree at the University of Oxford, and went on to complete a Masters degree in Polar Studies (focusing on marine glacial geology) at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge. After completing his studies, he spent several seasons managing a small tour company in Ilulissat, Greenland, before starting to work on expedition ships.
During his onboard career, he has spent several years total in the Arctic, Antarctic and everywhere in between as a Geology Lecturer, Assistant Expedition Leader, and Expedition Leader; Greenland and the wider Arctic remains his favorite destination. Steffan currently works as Product Manager at Albatros Expeditions, designing and organizing new and exciting itineraries, dividing his time between Copenhagen and his home in the wild west of Wales. Outside the office he can usually be found on the nearest beach, or in his kitchen attempting (sometimes even successfully) new culinary techniques. Whenever he can, he loves to be onboard expedition vessels reconnecting with his favourite destinations, onboard colleagues and guests, and interpreting the fascinating world of polar geology.
