About this Event
RBC Presents: An Evening in Damascus returns in a new structure
For eight years, An Evening in Damascus invited you to a Damascene home, with water fountains and lounges, to enjoy an authentic taste of the Syrian capital. Today, the event returns, and brings a whole Souq to your doorsteps in Vancouver.
The good tried-and trues are still there: a welcoming space at the elegant Terminal City Club, A wonderful meal by the women of Tayybeh: A Celebration of Syrian Cuisine; a one-of-a-kind belly-dancing performance by Rahel, the stunningly beautiful artist, and drag performances that will bring you all the joy you wish for!
The new and exciting is here:
A walk down a Damascene market, similar to Al-Hamidieh, the four-thousand-year-old market in the heart of the city: booths will feature offerings by Syrian-Canadian artists, designers and creatives. The spaces were offered for free to these artists for free to present their work in the Evening in Damascus.
A traditional Hakawati performance done by Danny Ramadan: a traditional storytelling-style offered by the award-winning Syrian-Canadian author and advocate.
A performance by the Syrian band Dafa: bringing the heart of Damascus to the stage in Vancouver.
And … our latest addition to our line-up: We are taking you to the ball, darlin’. With a live ballroom performance by Van Vogue Jam – something that you probably have never experienced before.
All in support of Rainbow Refugee Society! In the past eight years, the event raised over $300,000, which facilitated safe passage here to Canada to dozens of Syrian and Middle Eastern refugees.
