RAVENLOFT: REALMS of TERRORIn 1983, TSR released the “Ravenloft” adventure module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, and my D&D games would never be the same! Over the next few years, a great number of my D&D adventures would take place in this cursed Domain, and it would help spark a lifelong love of horror novels and movies. Later came Ravenloft: Realms of Terror, a full campaign setting in the demi-planes of Dread, the precursor to 5e’s Van Richten’s Ravenloft sourcebook. This will be the inspiration for a drop-in campaign hosted in Authentic Dungeon’s immersive private rooms and run by yours truly, Scott Campbell.
This campaign will be starting at level one and will continue indefinitely so long as there is interest. I would like to focus on role-play and exploration over combat, but fear not (or be afraid) there will be plenty of thrilling battles and challenging encounters to keep your blood pumping and senses on edge. I am open to exploring the 2024 rule-sets depending on interest, but until this point my games have focused on the 2014 legacy ruleset, so my experience with the new rules is limited. As for session zero, because this will be a drop-in game and player rosters will potentially be fluid, I will include some notes here highlighting expectations and house rules. I typically use DnDBeyond to keep my campaigns organized and to have access to my player’s character sheets, and we will be using point buy to create characters. I have a few sourcebooks that will not be included in this campaign, including Spelljammer, the Critical role and Magic the Gathering sourcebooks, and 3rd party homebrew books. My preference for this particular setting will be human or generally human like characters, and more monster like characters should expect to face complications in the Ravenloft setting. Expect an adult themed game that has very little restrictions when it comes to themes. If it exists in horror movies, expect that it could appear at my table. I will be adhering to my own personal lines and veils, and I invite players to PRIVATELY inform me of their hard lines in subject matter on an individual basis. I use a home-brew house version of inspiration, and I’ve previously adopted the rules for drinking healing potions to allow downing a potion with a bonus action, or as a full action with maximum healing granted. I prefer in game, role-play reasons for multi-classing, and I prefer dice to be rolled on players turns after being requested. I like a tactical combat and use the optional flanking rules. I will be looking into some other optional rules to make gameplay more gritty.
Scare acting at Deadmonton Haunted house has been one of my passions for 8 years running now, and I frequently bring what I’ve learned from scaring people professionally to my TTRPG games, as well as what I’ve learned from numerous improv and voice acting courses.
