Ravel’s luscious textures are an endless banquet for the senses, from the dreamy moonlight of his Piano Concerto’s immortal slow movement to the glowing sunrise of his most picturesque ballet score. That same French air of sonic luxury abounds in Franck’s rendering of the timeless romance of Psyche and Eros. French delight meets Japanese intentionality in the uncommonly sensitive music of Takemitsu, who offers a starry-eyed gaze into the heavens.
