Are you a Viking in the making? Come along to our training session to find out! We'll teach you the basics of Viking combat and show you the weapons the Vikings would have used.Please bring the following with you:
- £2 if you're not a member of the society (This is for insurance reasons)
- Clothes you don't mind getting (possibly very) dirty
- Footwear with good grip (it's probably going to be wet and muddy, let's try and avoid slipping over)
- Food and water (you're going to get very hungry and thirsty. There'll be a small amount available for sharing, but bring your own too to make sure there's enough)
- Padded gloves (the thicker the better, ideally cricket or hockey gloves as they're quite well padded, but failing that motorbike gloves will also do if you've got them)
The rough plan for the day is as follows
- Greetings, hugs, introductions, insults and in-jokes
- Brief rules explanation
- Warm ups
- Introduction to weapons and basic combat
- Cool down games (Viking bulldog...)
- End of session
How to get there:
We're at Granville Country Park in Telford, but satnavs tend to put you at the wrong end of the park and it's a hell of a walk otherwise. Aim for the Muller factory (Donnington Wood, Telford TF2 7GJ) and just keep going. The entrance is on the left-hand side of the road and has a large metal archway.
