About this Event

Join us on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 6 to 9 PM at Mount Saint Mary’s University in LA for the premiere screening of , a powerful documentary about the 100-year struggle for constitutional gender equality. The film tells the inspiring story of the bi-partisan, multi-racial, and multi-generational effort that led to Virginia becoming the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. It also highlights the crucial role of Black women leaders in the fight for gender equality.

Hosted in partnership with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and the Center for the Advancement of Women at MSMU, the event will include a film screening at 6:30 PM followed by a Q&A on the power of coalition building.

This is a unique opportunity for community members, students, activists, and storytellers to engage with the history and future of gender equality in America.

About the film
RATIFIED is a feature documentary about the 100-year struggle for constitutional gender equality, and it's an inspiring story of a multi-racial, multi-generational, bi-partisan effort to make Virginia the 38th and final state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. It's also a story of how bureaucracy is used to stifle progress, and it takes a close look at the incredible perseverance of women - specifically, the Black women leaders who have taken their rightful place at the front of the movement for gender equality. The film has been carried forward by a multi-generational coalition of award-winning filmmakers including Deborah Riley Draper and Sabaah Folayan (co-directors), Emily Best and Megan Goedewaagen (producers), Even M Cohen (DoP), and executive producers Sarah Adina Smith, Jonako Donley, Little Walnut Productions, Atlas Films, IT ALL Media and Artemis Foundation.

About the Impact and Distribution Plan
RATIFIED's goal is to activate 15M Americans with private and partnership screenings around the country leading up to the election in November. Our first preview screening took place in Chicago on August 16th, followed quickly by our festival premiere on August 25th.

Since August 26th (Women's Equality Day) we have dozens of organizations who have requested to host private screenings to fundraise for women candidates and for organizations supporting women's rights.

All of our distribution activities from August-November will be private and festival screenings. PBS/Independent Lens will do television distribution of the film in 2025.
