About this Event
This exclusive exhibit showcases rare and never-before-seen photos of punk and glam legends by iconic photographer Leee Black Childers, offering a unique glimpse into rock history. Alongside the stunning photography, you'll also discover sustainable fashion, upcycled designs, work by other influential punk photographers, and curated rock ’n’ roll vintage pieces.
Punk Majesty is proud to host the first U.S. exhibit of iconic photographer Leee Black Childers since his passing in 2014. Known for his intimate portraits of punk rock, glam, and counterculture icons, this exhibit features prints from Childers’ original negatives, created in collaboration with the Leee Black Childers Estate and curator Smutty Smith. For the first time, his work will be available for sale in San Francisco, offering fans and collectors a rare chance to own pieces of music history.
Encouraged by Andy Warhol to pursue photography, Childers worked closely with Warhol as a stage manager for his theatrical production of Pork in 1972. Beyond his photography, Childers made a significant impact on the music industry, tour-managing legendary acts such as David Bowie (during Ziggy Stardust), Iggy Pop (during Raw Power), Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers (during L.A.M.F.), and other groundbreaking artists.
The exhibit, running February 1st through March 15th, 2025, showcases a curated selection of Childers’ most impactful works, including some never-before-seen photographs that were carefully stored for decades. Visitors will experience rare images of music legends like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Siouxsie Sioux, the New York Dolls, Patti Smith, and members of the Sex Pistols. These powerful photographs offer an authentic glimpse into the raw energy of the punk and glam eras.
An opening party will take place on Saturday, February 1st, from 5–9 pm, offering guests an exclusive first look. The exhibit will also participate in the SF First Thursdays Art Walk on Thursday, February 6th, from 5–9 pm, providing another opportunity to view the collection alongside other local art venues. The exhibit and showroom are open 7 days a week by appointment, and with a limited number of prints available, they are expected to sell out quickly.
“Leee Black Childers was immersed in a scene with the most exciting musicians and artists of his time, giving him the ability to capture the raw, untamed spirit of an era when rebellion and creativity were dangerous,” said Alisha Amnesia, founder of Punk Majesty. “His work inspired future generations to embrace individuality and push boundaries, making his legacy as powerful today as it was then. We are thrilled to bring his insider vision to San Francisco, a city that has long been a hub for artistic freedom and rebellion.”
This exhibit also marks an exciting chapter for Punk Majesty, the eco-conscious DIY punk fashion brand founded by Alisha Amnesia. Dedicated to sustainability, Punk Majesty transforms pre-loved items into bold, one-of-a-kind creations. Fans can explore a wide array of upcycled fashion, including embellished leather jackets, trench coats, bomber jackets, gloves, graffiti-style bags, and jewelry, all designed with a commitment to reducing waste and promoting mindful consumption.
The Punk Majesty Showroom, which just opened in November 2024, is San Francisco’s only punk and rock ’n’ roll showroom, blending fashion, art, and music culture. The showroom also features 70s and 80s rock and punk photography by Ruby Ray and re-sales of works by renowned photographers such as Mick Rock and Jerome Brunet, alongside curated featured designers and artists, rock ’n’ roll vintage clothing, custom designer accessories, and memorabilia.
The space is a celebration of rock ’n’ roll history, with iconic items such as the original marquee from The Red Devil Lounge, posters from legendary local venues like The Fillmore, The Regency Ballroom, and The Elbo Room, where Alisha Amnesia worked as a bartender.
