About this Event
Previously tucked away in the depths of the Rare Book Collection, explore a small treasure trove of pre-1800 Japanese Ukiyo-e (浮世絵) works and their history in this Rare Book Week event.
A form of mokuhanga (木版画), Ukiyo-e is a technique of wood printing common during the Edo period. From Utagawa Yoshitori to Katsuhika Hokusai, this talk will investigate the history of the Library’s Ukiyo-e collection, its cultural significance and how the prints found their way into the State Collection.
