NOOR-The Divine Light -Kathak by Rani Khanam & The Rhythmic beats - Lavani with Kathak by Mukta Joshi & troupe Rani Khanam is one of the most sensitive and astute interpreters of the Lucknow gharana of Kathak and has been performing professionally for the last three decades. She brings to her dance rare devotion, leaving the audience with a sense of near-spiritual fulfilment. She has been rigorously trained by renowned doyens of Kathak, including Fattan Khan, Reba Vidyarthi and Birju Maharaj and has graduated with top honours from Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. Inspired by her intimate knowledge of Islamic and Sufi texts, Khanam has performed the unique repertoire of Sufiana poetry (qalam). She is an empanelled artiste in the “Outstanding Category” of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and a “Top Graded” artiste of Delhi Doordarshan. She has received numerous accolades, including recognition from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. "NOOR-The Divine Light," which will be based on mystical Sufi poetry. The objective of production is to highlight the Sufism thoughts, their philosophic and spiritual delicacies. The language of Sufi poetry will be in : Persian, Devnagri, Braj bhasha, Dakhini Urdu, Assamese etc. Mukta Joshi is a Kathak dance guru, choreographer, an ‘A’ grade artiste of Doordarshan, Mumbai and a member of the International Dance Council. Over the last two decades, Joshi has been under the tutelage of Dr. Roshan Kumari. She founded the Nrityadhara Kathak Research Institute which aims to promote the Jaipur gharana of Kathak. She completed her Nrityalankar from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj and also has an LLB degree from the University of Mumbai. She has performed at prestigious venues in India and abroad. लावणी के रंग, कत्थक के संग The rhythmic beats of Lavani with Kathak ‘Lavani’ is energetic folk dance of Maharashtra and ‘kathak’ is traditional classical dance style of Bharat (India). Lavani rooted in kathak has flourished over 300 years as a distinct art. Both the dances based on Hindustani Sangeet but differ in taal section, where Dholki is main instrument in lavani, while kathak features Tabla. Importance of Ghungroo is same in both the styles, yet their sound vary. Our performance will showcase tradition of lavani and kathak, how they offer greetings to God and then to audience. Following, how lord Krishna plays important role and is worshiped in lavani and also in kathak. Then comes ‘Thumri’ originally a hallmark of kathak dance is reinterpreted in lavani as ‘Baithakichi Ada’. We would like to highlight how lavani’s steps has evolved and intertwined with kathak’s steps. We conclude the programme with most challenging part i.e. ‘Jugalbandi ‘where distinctive body movements and intricate footwork define each style An NCPA Presentation Age Limit: 6+ Late entry will not be permitted.
