There’s a High Cold Wind forecasted for Huntsville on March 8th! Y’all, we’re always excited to come back to St Stephen’s to hang with John and Evan and all the great folks we’ve met hanging out in Rocket City. We haven’t been back since last fall and we’re pumped to show y’all what we’ve been up to!Randy Steele is an award winning banjo pickin' singer/songwriter from Chattanooga, Tennessee. His first solo album ‘Songs from the Suck’ was released in early 2017 followed by ‘Moccasin Bender’ released in the summer of 2018 and ‘High Cold Wind’ in 2023. All of these releases were met with critical acclaim and spotlights from dozens of music critics, including Relix Magazine, No Depression, Americana Highways, and The Bluegrass Situation. Steele won an Independent Music Award for Bluegrass 'Song of the Year' for "Mobile Soon" and was a semi finalist in the esteemed ‘American Songwriter’ song of the year for ‘Age of Ben’. Steele has also been a finalist in the New Song LEAF Songwriting Competition in North Carolina and the Kerrville Folk Festival ‘New Folk’ competition in Texas. Steele continues to play out and tour both solo shows and as the front man with Randy Steele and High Cold Wind.
Randy Steele and the High Cold Wind are a high energy bluegrass band based out of Chattanooga Tennessee. It was started in 2022 as a support band for Steele’s singer/songwriter touring. After a few shows, they found themselves invited to multiple festivals throughout the Southeast US with acts like Greensky Bluegrass, Yonder Mountain String Band, Town Mountain, Larry Keel, Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out, The Kody Norris Show, Nick Lutsko, and the Lonesome River Band. The band entered the studio in late summer and has multiple single releases due out in 2023 beginning in March. Joining Steele in the High Cold Wind is flat pick wizard and member of Americana favorites Strung Like a Horse, Tyler Martelli on acoustic guitar. Multiple State, multiple instrumental contest Champion and well known teacher John Boulware on Mandolin. Slim Pickins Bluegrass’ own Justin Hupp on the upright bass. Randy Steele and the High Cold Wind are currently booked for several festivals and are actively booking select dates for 2024 Spring, Summer and Fall.
