Throughout his life, Allan Ramsay produced numerous exquisite portraits of women who were instrumental in shaping the world in which he flourished as a painter, writer and friend. This talk will centre around a selection of portraits of hostesses and letter-writers Ramsay knew well, to explore the different styles adopted by the painter when constructing a new image for these women.For over twenty years Anne Dulau Beveridge has been art curator for The Hunterian, with specific responsibilities for the French and British collections. To mark the 300th anniversary of the Birth of Allan Ramsay she curated the exhibition ‘Allan Ramsay: Portraits of the Enlightenment’. The latest exhibitions and research projects she has been involved with include ‘Old Ways New Rew Roads Travels In Scotland 1720-1832’ and 'The Afterlife of Mary Queen of Scots’
