Join us in Seattle on August 7th to Rally for the River in support of Snake River dam removal for southern resident orca, salmon, and Northwest Tribes.
We will gather on the grass just north of Seacrest Park (1660 Harbor Ave SW) to hear from speakers and make posters. We’ll launch kayaks, canoes, and SUPs from the beach for a short paddle to Jack Block Park (we’ll have entertainment for those who prefer not to paddle). If you have a kayak, canoe, or SUP please bring it to the event with a lifejacket. Otherwise, rentals will be available. For event details and RSVP click here: https://bit.ly/2UVvqxQ
About the issue:
We suffered through unbearable temperatures, with hundreds of deaths, during the Pacific Northwest’s recent heat wave. High temperatures were made worse and more likely by the climate crisis. Humans aren’t the only ones feeling the effects.
Water temperatures in the Snake River have already reached lethal levels. For the southern resident orca who depend on Snake River salmon, salmon die-offs could mean more misery. Just 75 in number, orca are one disaster away from extinction.
We are watching extinction happen before our eyes, sped up by the climate crisis. The Northwest cannot afford to lose our two most iconic species: orca and salmon. We need bold action this year -- it’s time to remove the lower Snake River dams.
