About this Event
Flingin Pots is excited to share low-firing process that is inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku involves removing pottery from a kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors in glazes and clay bodies and produces brilliant metallic blues, purples, coppers, red and yellows Note: Raku ware is not foodsafe.
Cost: $50
Times: 2-4:30pm (please arrive 5-10 mins early for check in)
What happens at the workshop? Raku demo - trash can and combustible demo, horsehair demo. Students pick out, label and paint pots. Each Student will paint or horse hair 2 pre-made pot to be fire in the Raku kiln.
Next, we Fire up students pots to 1800 and add them to the post firing reduction chambers. Lastly, clean up and TAKE POTS HOME!
