About this Event
Raku, a 16th-century method initially developed for tea ceremony ware, creates unique, one-of-a-kind pottery pieces with striking metallic glazes and crackle effects. Experience the thrill of firing pots at 1,840 degrees, manipulating them with sawdust and water, and even try the fascinating “horse hair” raku technique. The workshop will cover wheel throwing with the first day dedicated to creating clay works and the second to glazing and firing in the raku tradition. This workshop is limited to four students (ages 18 years and older), offering a personalized and creative experience. Wear old clothing and bring pottery tools if you have them. Directions to Andrew’s studio in Springfield will be provided upon registration. NOTE: This 2 day workshop is held the first two Saturdays of the month.
