This talk will provide an overview of multilingual language development and answer common questions such as:
- Do multilingual children start speaking later?
- What is typical for children who speak more than one language?
- How do I support my child’s mother tongue?
- What can I expect when introducing a new language to my child?
- Should I stop speaking my child’s home language to focus on their academic language development?
- How should I react when my child chooses to speak using one preferred language only?
- How many languages are too many?
This talk is suitable for any parent who would like to learn more about supporting their child in learning 2 or more languages.
Presenters: Sandra is a Speech and Language Therapist working with Foundations for Learning, a registered not-for-profit foundation providing therapy and learning support to English-speaking families living in Basel and Zurich. Sandra is experienced in helping bilingual and multilingual children grow their language skills and overcome challenges in their speech and language development. She is passionate about working with the team around the child, such as parents and teachers, and providing support that is meaningful, holistic and individualised to every families’ needs.
