Attention tennis players! Enjoy a fun weekend of tennis, food, and friends as we raise awareness and support for Wilmington's local Domestic Violence Shelter & Services. THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS FEB. 22!WHAT: A charity tennis tournament held in memory of MaryAnn Breault, the woman who tragically lost her life at Holly Tree Racquet & Swim Club in Dec. 2021 by domestic violence. All proceeds of the event will benefit Wilmington's Domestic Violence Shelter & Services.
WHY: To raise awareness of domestic violence in our community, support the Domestic Violence Shelter & Services, and educate the community on prevention and the resources available.
WHO: This event is being organized by the Greater Wilmington Tennis Association in collaboration with the victim's family.
WHEN: February 28 through March 2. Matches will take place throughout the weekend.
WHERE: Althea Gibson Tennis Complex at Empie Park (3405 Park Ave, Wilmington NC 28403)
FORMAT OF PLAY: This is a team event requiring a minimum of 2 men and 2 women per team (max 10 players); but if you need a team, one can be assigned to you. World Team Tennis Format is co-ed teams competing in a format that consists of 6 no-ad sets: 1 set each of men's and women's doubles followed by men's and women's singles, ending with 2 sets of mixed doubles. The total games won from all sets determines the winner. Substitutions and coaching are allowed during the match. There will be no conflicts with USTA matches.
