Sunday 28 th April 2024 One day walk
Gard’s Lookout and Diorite Waterfall
A one day rainforest bushwalk in Paluma Range National Park to Gard’s Lookout, Shay’s Clearing and Diorite Waterfall. Diorite Falls has very good flow currently and the pool is fantastic, so let’s go now to enjoy it.
Leader - Keith
Rated – Easy, but long - approx 21 km. Full day activity.
Terrain Description – Rainforest bush tracks. Some uneven footings (tree roots, rocks), small creek crossings, small hills.
Highlights – Small group walking. Rainforest, interesting trees, pretty creeks, a good lookout with eight (?) types of orchids, historic Shays’ Clearing, and waterfall pool swim.

Meet at 6:30 am at [RSVP VIA FORM & CONTACT KEITH]. We may car pool from there. We then drive to Paluma Dam to start the walk from the dam car park. If car pooling, please bring change of clothes and towel to sit on in the car - and offer the driver some fuel money.
Finish the walk at dam car park approx 4:30 - 5 pm.
Age limit - Must be over 18yrs to participate.
Fee: non-members $5
What to bring :
Day pack, food / snacks for the day, drinking water for the day, good footwear, electrolytes, insect repellent (leeches, mozzies), hat, sunscreen, personal first aid kit (basic), and eye protection / sunglasses (personal choice). Also head torch and whistle.
Hiking pole may be handy for the creek crossings.
If you are uncomfortable using creek water for drinking water refill (after treating suitably), then carry 4 lt minimum or more for the day to suit your requirements. Note that the club recommends that any natural water sources must be suitably treated before consumption.
