Rainbow's End 'Meet the South African Winemaker' Dinner We'll be welcoming winemaker Anton Malan over from South Africa for a special 'Meet the Winemaker' dinner
About this Event

Rainbow's End is a proper family endeavour. Dr Jacques Malan gave up his practice to pursue his love of wine. Now his son Anton makes the wine and his other son Francois tends the vines of the 22 hectare estate in Stellenbosch. The vineyards rise up from the valley floor to 550m above sea level high up the Jonkershoek Mountain.

This November we'll be welcoming Anton over for a special 'Meet the Winemaker' dinner where you'll taste six of the vineyards gems expertly paired with six dishes from our talented executive chef.

Winemakers treat each vintage year separately and make what the season and the specific terroir of a specific vineyard block offers. Every year the winemaking techniques differ slightly in order to ensure the best possible result irrespective of a particular style. What is produced is a unique product and different wine style annually – the best that the season can offer, a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Rainbow's End Mystical Corner, 2020 - paired with Beetroot carpaccio and toasted hazelnut

Does the name Mystical Corner bring to mind magicians, witchcraft or the occult for you? It did for us. To be honest we're not entirely convinced that they haven't used some black magic to conjure this up rich, smooth, dark wine at such an unnaturally and astonishingly reasonable price.

Rainbow's End Merlot, 2018 - paired with Mushroom ‘scallop’ with wild mushroom risotto

You can keep your pot of gold, this is the treasure at the rainbow's end. We know it doesn't sound that humble, but this is probably South Africa's finest Merlots. This stops you in your tracks and makes your smile from ear to ear, just like a rainbow.

Rainbow's End Cabernet Franc, 2018 - paired with Flat iron steak, crispy shallot rings and jus

Here at Humble Grape we have to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for the underrated Cabernet Franc grape variety. So when we stumbled across Rainbow's End's smooth Cabernet Franc, which was voted the best in South Africa by the SA Terroir Awards and SA Wine of the Month Club, we knew we had to have it.

Rainbow's End Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 - paired with Glazed Chorizo and braised lentils

Shiraz paired with Slow cooked lamb, whipped tahini and pomegranate

Rainbow's End Family Reserve, 2016 - paired with Barronet, chutney and sourdough

Only 10 barrels made from the very finest vintages. The Malan family's pride & joy.
