Join us at Steeple City Social for our second Tea Dance! Hosted by DJ PRL, our tea dance will provide our community with the opportunity to socialize, dance, drink, snack, flirt, and be entertained by our region’s top talent. About our Host, DJ PRL:
DJ PRL (pronounced Pearl) is a Pioneer Valley native who has always had a passion for music and her community, finding a love for karaoke at a young age and attending as many events in her hometown of Northampton as she could. She eventually started her DJ career in 2021 hosting award-winning karaoke nights at the Majestic Saloon, and has since expanded into DJing and even helping organize dance parties, drag shows, weddings and other events across Western MA.
About Tea Dances:
Gay tea dances emerged in the mid-20th century as a social space for LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly in the US, due to legal restrictions on alcohol sales to gay people and societal prejudice. These afternoon dances, initially held on Sundays, provided a safe and accepting environment for socializing and dancing when other venues were unavailable or unwelcoming. They originated in New York City and spread to other cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Provincetown, and Los Angeles.
