Our next walk is on Saturday June 27th.We meet outside the entrance to Small Heath railway station to begin the walk at 11.00am.
The walk takes us through woodlands, parks, along a river and a canal before reaching the village of Old Yardley.
From Small Heath station we walk by the Grand Union Canal and then enter woodland alongside the River Cole. Keep your eyes out for deer or a skier!
From there we pass Blakesley Hall, a Tudor house which is one of the oldest in Birmingham. We then continue to Old Yardley, an historic village and hidden gem, which is a conservation area going back many centuries with impressive buildings.
Here we will have a break for lunch, so please bring food if you wish to eat, and an opportunity to explore the village. We then walk through Old Yardley Park and return via the riverside and canal towpath. The terrain is flat and mostly paved, but suitable walking footwear is recommended.
For those coming by public transport from Birmingham city centre there are frequent trains to Small Heath station from Moor Street and Snow Hill stations. The journey only takes a few minutes.
For those coming by car, there is parking in side streets near the station, the closest being Armoury Road. The address for the station is Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath, B10 0DP.
We hope you will be able to join us on this walk which includes greenery, wildlife and history.
